Finance Director Opening

The Town of New Boston is seeking a qualified candidate for the full-time position of Finance Director. The Finance Director manages the Town’s accounting and financial operations and reports directly to the Town Administrator.

The successful candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the ability to apply them across a variety of municipal finance functions. The position requires a thorough understanding of the New Hampshire municipal budget process, including budget preparation, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Candidates must also have significant knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements for local governments.

The Town of New Boston operates on a fiscal calendar year basis with an annual budget of approximately $7–8 million. The ideal candidate will be an ethical, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to meet state and federal deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Continuing education or training in municipal finance, capital improvement planning, or related areas preferred.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in municipal or business finance.
  • Experience in municipal budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting operations is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with mixed education and experience will be considered.

Deputy Town Clerk

The Town of New Boston is currently accepting applications for a part-time Deputy Town Clerk. Skill in use of a personal computer, office practices and procedures, record maintenance, ability to deal with the public in a professional manner required. Ability to plan, organize and work independently. The successful candidate will be trained to be responsible for keeping motor vehicle records, vital statistics, election, and motor vehicle law. The successful candidate will be expected to run for election as Town Clerk in 2027 due to the anticipated retirement of the Town Clerk.

The Deputy Town Clerk position functions in accordance with state statutory and constitutional requirements.

Job requirements include that the candidate must be a resident of New Boston, commissioned as or willing to be commissioned as a Justice of the Peace and/or Notary Public. Certification provided by the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles to use the state computer program. Training will be at the state level and in the office.

Education Requirement: High School Diploma or GED is required.

The successful candidate will work at least two days per week, Mondays 9:00am-4:00pm and Wednesdays noon-7:00pm. Must be flexible to fill in on Tuesdays 9:00am-4:00pm when needed and to work all elections. Election season schedule includes Election Days, along with assistance in preparing for elections. Should also be available to cover for vacations or illnesses.

Fire Chief of Department

The New Boston Fire Department is seeking to fill a new full-time position as the Department Fire Chief. This position reports to the Board of Fire Wards and will be a 40-hour week position. Applicants must be a New Hampshire licensed EMT, EMT-A or Paramedic, Pro Board-certified firefighter and possess solid administrative skills along with a well-established knowledge of fire inspections.

GENERAL PURPOSE The Fire Chief serves as the executive leader of the Fire Department and is responsible for the overall administration, operations, emergency response readiness, personnel management, budgeting, training, planning, emergency medical services (EMS), Emergency Management, hazardous materials response (HAZMAT) and community relations. This position requires a proven fire service leader with both command-level fireground experience and strong administrative capabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Must be at the rank of Shift Commander or higher within a career, combination fire department. • Minimum of 10 years of progressive fire service experience, including supervisory responsibilities. • Demonstrated fire line / incident command experience managing emergency incidents and personnel. • Proven administrative leadership experience, including: • Budget development and management • Personnel supervision and evaluations • Policy and procedure development • Strategic planning • Training oversight • Records and regulatory compliance • NH Certified Firefighter II • Incident Command System (ICS) • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. (CDL-B preferred) • Possess and Maintains EMT or higher certification\ • Haz-Mat-Ops (Decon Level or Haz-Mat Tech preferred); • ICS/NIMS 100, 200,300, 400, 700, 800. • Fire Officer I and II Certified. • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) majoring in Fire Science, Fire protection, Fire/ Emergency • Certification in Public Administration would also be considered

Police Officer/Detective

The New Boston Police Department is seeking applicants to fill vacant Full-Time Police Officer positions.

Applicants will be required to complete the initial testing battery consisting of a written exam, physical agility test, and a panel interview.  Following the initial testing, the candidate selected will be extended a conditional offer of employment. This offer being conditioned upon the successful completion of a thorough background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological examination.

A training agreement is required for non-certified candidates only.

The starting annual salary for a Non-Certified Officer is $52,790 and increases to $71,136 after 42 months. The annual base salary does not include overtime or private duty details. Private duty details are paid at 2.25 times the Officer normal hourly rate of pay.  The Town of New Boston also offers competitive starting pay up to $71,136 for Certified Officers. Certified Officers are placed within the approved pay scale based on the Officer’s prior training, qualifications, and experience.  The Town of New Boston offers a competitive benefits package to include vacation, sick and personal time off, medical & dental insurance, short & long-term disability, life insurance, state retirement, earned time buy-backs, 457 Supplemental Retirement, 12 paid holidays, and a 4-on 3-off work schedule.
