Mill Pond Conservation Area

The Town purchased the original 13 acre parcel in 1991 using matching funds from the State's LCIP program.  A citizen’s group donated an additional 3 acres to the Town in 2015 to allow for the trail to continue further along the River and add a footbridge across the river to the Whipple Free Library.

Located on Mill Street, the Conservation Area stretches from the Piscataquog River's edge up the hill to the Town Cemetery.

You may enjoy a picnic on the flat stretch of riverbank or walk along the trail from the granite gate posts to the footbridge connecting to the library's trails on the west bank.

A hike up the esker trail to the upland loop trail will reward you with views of the village and may even treat you to signs of deer.

The site of the Saltmarsh/Friedrich Ice House abuts the picnic area. Only the foundation of the icehouse remains, and has been sand-filled.

The second grade students at the Central School raised money to provide picnic tables and other amenities for the picnic area.

The Conservation Areas require seasonal maintenance. The Commission invites New Boston residents and others to join us in this work. Please contact the Conservation Commission via email if you are interested.
