Frances Byam Towne presented with Boston Cane

On March 9th, Frances Byam Towne, New Boston's newest oldest citizen, was presented with the prestigious Boston Cane.

The Boston Cane was established in 1909, when the publisher of the Boston Post distributed over 700 canes to municipalities in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Since then, 29 New Boston Residents have received this honor. Last Saturday, Frances Byam Towne became the 30th recipient of the Boston Cane. Mrs. Towne's lifelong citizenship in New Boston has created many wonderful memories and friendships along the way.

Mrs. Towne, it is a great honor for the New Boston Select Board to present you with the Boston Cane. Your name will also be engraved on a permanent display at the Historical Society. We congratulate you with our very best wishes.
