Safe Sitter® is for young teens in grades 6-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. In addition, Safe Sitter® teaches young teens life and business skills, so that they know how to be prepared, be responsible, and be considerate whether they are babysitting or doing odd jobs for family, friends, or neighbors. You’ll have fun. You’ll learn a lot. And at the end of the day, you can proudly say, “I am a Safe Sitter®!”

Parents - Is your child ready to stay home alone, watch younger brothers and sisters while you’re away from the house, or babysit for younger children? Then maybe it’s time for Safe Sitter®. Safe Sitter® is for boys and girls in grades 6-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. Safe Sitter® teaches young teens how to practice important safety skills, how to handle emergencies, and how to treat illnesses and injuries. Some classes even teach CPR. In addition, students learn important business skills, like how to screen jobs, set a wage, and work with employers

Course Content: Safe Sitter® is a medically oriented instructional program designed to train young people for babysitter certification. The curriculum includes units on babysitting as a business, behavior management, child development, safety, injury management, rescue breathing, and choking techniques. Safe Sitter® is a one-day, comprehensive class combining classroom lectures with hands-on practice to facilitate an effective learning environment for the target audience of primarily young adolescents. The class is taught by professionals and maintains a small teacher/student ratio.

Safe Sitter® is a popular program in the community and seeks to ensure that graduates will be safe, confident babysitters. Also, a goal of Safe Sitter is to teach information and skills which are not only useful for babysitting but in other life arenas as well. The Safe Sitter® motto, "Better sitters today, better parents tomorrow" expresses this intent.

During the course, participants get hands-on practice in basic lifesaving techniques, so they are prepared to act accordingly in a crisis. Participants must also pass a rigorous practical and written test to show they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.
